Lubrication Our Warranty states, "That in order to maintain your warranty status with Performance Steel Guitar, LLC, that these procedures are performed at least every six months..." Were
going to start this topic with a short story. A 40 year old
gentleman severely sprained his ankle one week before he was to go
on vacation with his family to the ocean. When he went to the
doctor, he told him that he hoped it wouldn't interfere with the family's
vacation. The doctor told him that actually it would be very good
for his ankle. The doctor told him to carefully walk in the water
just slightly above his ankle, and do it for around 15 minutes a couple of
times per day. Excited with this news, the family departed for their
long awaited vacation. First thing he did upon arrival, was to take
off his shoes and socks, and walk in the water just as the doctor had
prescribed. It did feel good. So good in fact that the next
day, he decided to walk in water just below his knee. It was a
little harder to move his ankle, but he continued...until he found himself
in water up to his waist. Eventually he further strained his ankle,
and was forced to sit with his leg propped up, while the rest of the
family enjoyed the beach. Our point is, too much lubricant can be just as harmful as not enough. Friction caused when two metal surfaces contact each other in motion, and without any lubrication will fail 500 times faster. This is a well known fact in the bearing industry. Applying the proper amount of lubrication and at the correct interval, will give you years of use on your instrument. Applying the correct type of lubricant is equally important. We will state this here and now, NEVER USE WD 40! Our
factory instruments are shipped with the proper amount of lubricant applied, and we recommend
a Lubricant Parts to lubricate and suggested schedule Every Three Months: 1. Lube the Changer between the fingers with a few drops when your changing strings. Move your fingers in the changer to allow the lubricant to penetrate the changer mechanism. If this lubricant, as with any other lubricants comes in contact with your wound strings, it will reduce the life, and more importantly the sound of the string. 2. Lube the roller nut axle on each side of the roller with a few drops. 3.
That's it...remember the story above. Too much lube attracts
dust, and that mixture is not a good
